The quiet failure

Your generator tests itself every week. Do you know if it passed?

The weekly exercise run starts the engine for a few minutes with no load. It does not change the oil, load-test the battery, or prove the transfer switch can carry your house. Those are the things that fail at 2 a.m. in an ice storm.

See maintenance plans
StartingBatteryA weak battery is one of the most common reasons a standby unit won't start. We test it under load, not just with a meter.
EngineOil, filters and plugsOil breaks down even when the engine barely runs. Fresh oil, a clean air filter and good plugs are the difference between a start and a fault code.
TransferTransfer switchThe switch moves your home from the grid to the generator. If it sticks, the engine runs and the house stays dark.
FuelGas supply and regulatorA tired regulator or undersized line can starve the engine once real load hits.
EnclosureNests, debris and plantsMud daubers, mice and overgrown shrubs block airflow and chew wiring. Georgia summers are hard on enclosures.
ControlController and alertsStored fault codes and lapsed monitoring hide problems until you need the power.

Outage cost

What does a dark house cost you?

Plug in your own numbers. The starting values are examples only.

3 days
Major ice storms and hurricanes have left parts of North Georgia dark for a week or more.
USDA: a closed fridge keeps food safe about 4 hours.
A full freezer holds about 48 hours, half full about 24.
Set to 0 if you would stay home.
Remote work, a home office, or a shop that can't open.
Sump pump failure, a well that stops, pets, medical equipment.

Questions

Straight answers

How often should my generator be serviced?

Most manufacturers call for maintenance at least once a year, and more often after heavy use or long outages. Your owner's manual lists the exact interval for your model. If you're not sure when it was last serviced, it's due.

It runs its weekly test. Isn't that enough?

No. The exercise run starts the engine for a few minutes with no load. It doesn't change fluids, load-test the battery, inspect wiring, or prove the transfer switch will carry your home.

What brands do you work on?

Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton and more. Tell us the make and model when you call and we'll confirm.

What happens if I call during an outage?

We talk through what the controller is showing, triage the problem, and schedule the fastest available visit. Maintenance plan customers get priority.

What do I get after a visit?

A written report with pass/fail inspection items, technician notes, your generator's model and serial, and photos of your equipment.

Can I lock in my plan price?

Yes. Prepay a multi-year plan and your price holds for the full term.
